Additional Property Attributes

In 1890, the Francy family built a 3-story (with basement) c-shaped 4.340 sq-ft brick structure. The ground floor house several store fronts at 300 Market Street and the corner of Market & Third Street in Toronto, OH. The structure housed a General Store & Food Market, Drug Store, Lending Library, and Francy Furniture Store. A family residence and rental units occupied the two upper levels. In 1925, the owner also built a one-story 1,024 sq-ft brick structure and loading dock in the rear of the building inside the inner walls of the c-shaped structure for storage and receiving goods and shipments. After WWII, the Cooper brothers of Toronto, OH purchased the building and operated Coopers Hardware until their retirement in the 1980s. The Starr family purchased the building in 1991 for storage and automobile repair. In 2009, T Town Properties purchased the property and operated an industrial maintenance service for approximately 30 months. For a short period afterwards, a social service, His Hands Extended, operated a food pantry on the ground floor. Today, the building is vacant and certified tax delinquent. Local citizens have reported bricks from the building have fallen on the street and walkway. Once demolished, the city will maintain the lot as a community greenspace. The city maintains a parking facility west of the property on Market Street, a national registered historic World War I Monument on the northeast corner of Market, and Third Street and a public park on the south east corner of the intersection. The Jefferson County Land Reutilization Corporation (Land Bank) is completing application for funds through the Ohio Department of Development Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program to remediate and demolish the structure. The City of Toronto is working with the property owner to pay the delinquent tax charges and credits and has agreed to pay 25% of the remediation and demolition costs.
