Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Site contains a defunct municipal wastewater treatment facility, a former municipal landfill, a police shooting range, and a police canine training area. A wetlands area is present in the eastern and southern portions of the site along the Kings River. A locking fence surrounds the wastewater treatment plant, and a gate blocks access to the entire site from the road. Prior to city ownership (July 15, 1940), the property was reportedly used for agriculture purposes. Because no records were kept regarding landfill operations at the site, it is unknown when the City began using a portion of the site for landfill. According to Tulare County Health Services records, the landfill was still accepting waste in 1992. The city is currently using the site for disposal of street sweepeings. No records have been found indicating when the watewater treatment plant was constructed.
