Former Use: Camp Adair was a WW II-era army base that covered hundreds of acres just north of Corvallis, Oregon, that was primarily used for gunnery practice and military maneuvers. Military operations at Camp Adair ceased in 1946; site use from 1946 to 1958 is unknown. In 1958, the 126 acres that currently make up the city-owned former Boise Cascade Industrial Site property was transferred to the Plywood Products Company, which constructed a facility to manufacture plywood using blood-based glue, which required the use of pentachlorophenol (PCP) as a mold inhibitor. Military operations that were located within the 126-acre site included a gas station and pump house, seven motor repair shops, four oil houses, a car wash rack, four grease racks, a paint warehouse, and misc. other buildings such as barracks; latrines, storehouses, supply warehouses, and guardhouses. The Plywood Products Company conducted operations in the southeast corner of the property. In 1960, the Plywood Products Company transferred to Georgia-Pacific. In 1965, Georgia-Pacific added a manmade fire water reservoir and sewage lagoon to the plywood operations - they are still present on the property. A 1970 aerial photograph documents both the plywood operations and the former military structures. Site operations were transferred to Boise cascade in 1973, and the plywood operations switched to use of phenolic glue instead of PCP. All plywood manufacturing operations ceased on the property in 1981. Boise-cascade performed site cleanup activities related to the former plywood operations in 1990. No structures (military or plywood operations) remain on the property.
