Property Highlights

The site was initially developed in the late 1920s. Between 1927 and 1941, a small one-story building was constructed on the southwest side of the property; the building was historically operated as a gasoline station and an auto repair/parts facility. A second one-story concrete building was constructed between 1947 and 1949 in the middle of the site and operated as an auto repair/storage building. Multiple additions were made to the auto repair/storage building between 1970 and 1975, following filling of the former Mill Race and raising the site to the current elevation. The Background Memorandum, prepared by Foster Wheeler, dated July 2001 stated that the site has historically been used as a gasoline station, auto repair facility, automobile parts storage/sales, used automobile and truck sales, and a storage area for scrap metal recycling. Most recently the site was occupied by Scarpati?s Auto Salvage as a vehicle repair and maintenance facility. The site was acquired by the City by foreclosure in 2005 and the onsite building and pavement were demolished in late 2009 and early 2010. The property is part of an effort to redevelop several contiguous properties along Assunpink Creek into recreational areas and greenways, referred to collectively as the Assunpink Greenway Project.
