Additional Property Attributes

This property, 1259 Niedringhaus, along with adjoining addresses, 1901-1909 and 1930 Cleveland and 1243-1259 Niedringhaus, were subjects of a Phase I ESA completed on March 26, 2009 already reported on ACRES. This ESA revealed that the 1259 Niedringhaus address was formerly the site of a dry cleaner. As this address was also the proposed site for the actual Cinema Building the other addresses comprised the surrounding landscape and parking, the City of Granite City requested that the Tri-City Port funded a Phase II SI to investigate this address before the excavation for the foundations began. The SI revealed that trace contaminants were identified at the subject site. It was concluded that there was no need for additional environmental investigation and that the site appears to be suitable for industrial/commercial use. Therefore, no cleanup was conducted on the site. The site is slated for redevelopment as a three-screen Cinema. The operator anticipates creating from 15 to 25 FTE jobs. The groundbreaking took place on July 23, 2009. The Grand Opening took place on August 18, 2010, and the movie house has been in operation since.
