Additional Property Attributes

The site was formerly used as a public school, McKinley School. Purchased by Gateway Regional Medical Center in 1980, it was then converted into a medical clinic, but was closed and has been vacant for approximately one year. Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation SIHF, a not-for-profit provider of affordable healthcare in southern Illinois, has contracted to purchase the site for redevelopment as an affordable healthcare clinic. In pursuit of this goal, SIHF has been awarded a federal HRSA grant of approximately 8.5 million. Madison County is providing 100,000 for ACM abatement and demolition. The Phase II site investigation and ACM/LBP inspection were funded with the Port's EPA Brownfield grant. Additionally, a NEPA Environmental Assessment and a Tank Trenching investigation to find a tank that was alleged to be on the subject site were funded by a neighboring agency's EPA Brownfield grant. No tank was found, to the relief of SIHF. Under terms of the HRSA grant, the clinic must be open and operating by September 2012.

Former Use: The site was formerly used as a public school, McKinley School.
