Additional Property Attributes

The subject site was originally developed as the Commonwealth Steel foundry. The current owner of the site is willing to lease the unused portion the subject site of his Steel pickling facility for a nominal price to a local not-for-profit known as Al Fresco Productions. In partnership with local university art departments and the City of Granite City, Al Fresco plans to use this site to develop a Metal Arts Center and a Granite City Industrial museum. The asbestos/LBP inspection revealed that asbestos and LBP are present throughout the subject site as well as a number of potential environmental hazards in the form of fire extinguishers, ballasts, containers of misc. cleaners/substances, fluorescent bulbs, etc.

Former Use: Consisting of approximately one acre /-, the Site is located in western Granite City, Illinois, within the Ports Route 3 Industrial Corridor. Used most recently as a metal foundry operation, the Sites uses prior to this are unknown. Although the adjoining buildings are used for steel pickling and product storage, this portion of the Site has been unused for many years. The subject site was formerly operated as Commonwealth Steel. The site and adjoining property is currently owned by Granite City Picking.
