Additional Property Attributes

The Site is located within the city limits of Alton in Madison County in southwestern Illinois. The Site is currently occupied by the former YMCA building at the southeast corner of the site, the Snyder building and part of the former Sears building in the southwest corner, and a paved parking lot on the northern and central portion of the Site. The Site is located in the downtown district of Alton, surrounded by commercial businesses. The Mississippi River is located two blocks south of the Site. Historical site uses on the Central Block included commercial retail, a paint spray booth, and auto sales and repair on the block north of the Central Block, the Piasa Iron & Brass Foundry and Machine Shop operated later Beall Brother Manufacturing � Mining Tools, as well as auto repair services and commercial retail. Based on the results of the Phase II SIs, no active remediation is required at the Site. There were no petroleum impacts found in groundwater samples from the on-site wells. Exposure to COCs that exceed IEPA TACO Tier 1 ROs can be addressed using institutional controls, engineered barriers and the City�s groundwater ordinance. The City of Alton has paved the site & is using it for public parking.
