Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Based on information obtained during the Phase I ESA, the use of the subject property prior to 1938 could not be determined. According to Mr. Tom Eustice, City of Cheboygan Assessor, the subject property was originally part of an area farming operation this prior use of the property is also stated within an Environmental Audit prepared in May 2002 by others. Beginning in the late 1950s or early 1960s, the subject property was utilized by the Cheboygan Catholic High School as a football practice facility, with a baseball diamond added to the property in the late 1960s. According to Mr. Eustice, the property was used as athletic fields until the late 1980s or early 1990s. In 1986, a paper company Mosinee purchased the subject property from the Gaylord Archdiocese with the intent of developing it as a paper manufacturing facility. However, the paper manufacturing facility was not built as Mosinee�s development plans were not approved by the community thus the parcel remained vacant during their ownership. In 1992, the Lahaie family purchased the subject property from Mosinee and left the parcel as vacant land. Both Mr. Eustice and Mr. Scott McNeil, the City of Cheboygan Manager, indicated the property has been utilized for some time as overflow parking during events staged at the adjacent Cheboygan County Fairgrounds. At the time the Phase I ESA site reconnaissance activities were completed on May 29, 2009, the subject property was vacant.
