The KDHE conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the former Santa Fe Nursing Home located at 413 S Prospect Place in Burlingame, Kansas for the City of Burlingame. The property has an unknown environmental status and is proposed for redevelopment into senior citizen and moderate-income housing. Based on the Phase I report, a REC was identified as staining from a potential release from the pad-mounted transformer. The City was notified regarding the observed transformer pad staining and has been encouraged to work with the local utility company to assess the contents of the transformer and addresses any potential leaks. Further investigation under the brownfields program is not warranted at this time and the property is cleared for redevelopment. An Asbestos Building Survey was conducted as an additional scope outside of the ASTM-1527-05 Phase I assessment. Asbestos containing material (ACM) was identified in the building and the City has been advised to work with the KDHE Asbestos Control Section to comply with all Federal and State regulations with respect to the asbestos.
