Property Highlights

A fire broke out in an abandoned building on the property in the middle of the night on August 16, 2005. The large building was completely demolished, and there had to be an asbestos cleanup in the neighborhood following the fire, as there was asbestos in the roofing material. An excellent asbestos abatement crew was contracted by the lessee of the property, Idaho Timber of Missoula, Inc. and the cleanup went very well. The public's concerns were addressed through public meetings and messages through the media, as well as an Asbestos Hotline that was set up within a day of the fire breaking out. Former Use: The Sawmill was owned and operated by a variety of entitities through most of the 1900s, ceasing operations in the 1990s. It was bequeathed to the Morris and Helen Silver Foundation in 2004. It was acquired in 2012 by the Millsite Revitalization Project and, in portion, the City of Missoula.
