Additional Property Attributes

The KDHE conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) for the City of Wichita on the Oliver Ave to Woodlawn Blvd extension of the Redbud Bike/Pedestrian Path in Wichita, Kansas. Extending the existing Redbud Path has been hindered by the unknown environmental status of the corridor, and the Brownfields assessment is necessary to evaluate the property prior to construction. Based on the Phase I report, RECs were identified as the historic use of the property as a railroad corridor. Due to the potential for soil and groundwater impacts, a Phase II limited site investigation was performed in August 2013. Based on results of the Phase II investigation, benzo(a)pyrene, naphthalene (PAH constituents), arsenic, cadmium, and lead have been identified in the soil above their respective KDHE RSK soil levels. The City of Wichita has been encouraged to apply to the Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) to address the soil contamination on the property prior to redevelopment.

Former Use: Railroad Corridor from at least 1888 to sometime between 1986 and 2003 when the tracks were removed. Currently site is a vacant corridor.
