The KDHE conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) on approximately 1 acre of vacant, wooded riverfront property located east of National Ave and North of Linker St. in Fort Scott, Kansas. The BTA was conducted for the Fort Scott/Bourbon County Riverfront Authority (Riverfront Authority). The 1 acre parcel of land was part of a much larger area assessed in 2008, however, an updated Phase I environmental site assessment was necessary to support current redevelopment efforts. In particular, the Riverfront Authority has secured funding to develop several acres of land adjacent to the Marmaton River into a Riverfront Park with walking and biking trails, gardens, public use spaces, etc. Based on the Phase I report, no �Recognized Environmental Conditions� (RECs) were identified in connection with the subject property and the property was cleared for redevelopment through the Brownfields program in January 2014. Redevelopment has been completed at this property, with a half mile long and ten foot wide hiking/biking trail. The trail was completed on June 27, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 5, 2014.
