The following RECs were identified during the completion of this Phase I ESA: � Former Diversified Composites (51 3rd Street SE): Based upon a previous Phase II ESA report provided to AMEC, concentrations of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) were detected in two soil samples at levels above the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) soil screening levels (SSLs). Concentrations of benzo(a)-anthracene and benzo(a)pyrene were detected in one soil sample above NCDENR SSLs. Concentrations of total chromium and mercury were detected in three soil samples above NCDENR SSLs, however at or below average background concentrations for soils across the United States. This indicates that there has been a release of these hazardous substances and petroleum products at this facility. Due to the cross-gradient position of this site and the close proximity to Property 1, this release has the potential to impact groundwater at the site. Therefore, this off-site facility is considered an REC.

Former Use: The site consists of two properties (10 parcels total) located in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. Property 1 is approximately 0.63 acres comprised of four parcels located at 11, 17, 21 and 27 3rd Street SE, and is vacant and partially paved. Property 2 is approximately 1.70 acres comprised of six parcels located along Main Avenue Way SE, and is currently vacant and undeveloped. Based upon historical research, Property 1 was developed with residential dwellings from at least 1938 until sometime between 1966 and 1976. The property has since been vacant, or used for tractor trailer parking and/or vacant. Property 2 was developed with residential dwellings from at least 1938 until sometime between 1966 and 1976. The property has since been vacant and undeveloped.
