Additional Property Attributes

The Site is currently an abandoned and unoccupied former Catholic church that has been vacant since the 1980s. According to the Town of Brookside, due to the unkempt conditions of the Site and the aging and leaking roof of the building, the Town of Brookside repeatedly requested the Catholic Diocese to either improve the Site or return the Sites ownership to the people of Brookside. In April of 2013, the Town of Brookside was given title to the Site via donation from the Catholic Diocese. The Town's intent is to renovate the building into a useable building that will benefit the Town of Brookside and surrounding communities. They intend to update the building to provide office space for the Town of Brookside Water Operator and for Brookside Roads Maintenance. They also wish to renovate the Chapel into an Event Center that the public can use. Redevelopment plans include repurposing the building in order to preserve it, improve the Towns appearance and benefit the public by providing a friendly site for community and family events. If the building is repurposed as a Wedding Chapel/Event Center, it is hoped that the rental fees will help with the maintenance of the building. The events to be held there could include fine art classes and events, exercise classes, other educational classes, music events, small theatrical events, weddings and other family events.

Former Use: The Site was reportedly undeveloped prior to moving the former Brewster schoolhouse onto the property in 1920 to use as a church for the Town of Brookside (i.e., St. Anthonys Church). The Site was owned by the Catholic Diocese and utilized as a Catholic Church from 1920 untill abandoned in the 1980s. The Site has sat abandoned with the building vacant since the 1980s to the present. According to the Town of Brookside, due to the unkempt conditions of the Site and the aging and leaking roof of the building, the Town of Brookside repeatedly requested the Catholic Diocese to either improve the Site or return the Sites ownership to the people of Brookside.
