Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the northwest corner of Scanlan Ave. and Wall St. in Salina, Kansas. The BTA was completed for the Salina Airport Authority, who is the current owner and intends to sell or lease the vacant property to a prospective purchaser. Based on the Phase I report, Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) were identified in connection with the BTA property as potential migration of hazardous substances onto the BTA site from the Schilling Air Force Base site (C5-085-03013), which encompasses the Salina Municipal Airport and adjoining areas. The Schilling site is currently enrolled in the KDHE State Cooperative Program due to the known trichloroethylene (TCE) groundwater plumes. These TCE plumes are currently being monitored and remediated through the State Cooperative Program; therefore no additional investigation is required at this time through the Brownfields Program and the property is cleared for redevelopment. Notwithstanding, there is a potential for vapor intrusion at the BTA site due to the known impacts to groundwater and best management practices should be carried out during future construction at the property.

Former Use: The property has always been agricultural or pasture land. In 1947 the Common School District no.50 sold the property to a private individual, and the property changed ownership nine times from private individual to private individual until, in 1985, the Salina Airport Authority purchased the property.
