The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) on approximately 17.6 acres of vacant property located southeast of the Campbell Drive southern terminus and south of 4805 Campbell Drive in Fort Scott, Kansas. The BTA was conducted for the Bourbon County Economic Development Council through the KDHE Coalition Assessment Grant # BF 97741501 - petroleum substance funding. The property is targeted for expansion of the industrial park. Based on the Phase I report, no "Recognized Environmental Conditions" (RECs) were identified in connection with the subject property and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Former Use: The assessment site consists of on vacant parcel that occupies approximately 17.6 acres of mostly undeveloped land in southern Fort Scott, Kansas. The parcel is located southeast of the Cambpell Drive Southern terminus and south of 4805 Campbell Drive. The site generally spans between the eastern adjoining railroad right-of-way in the east to the Fort Scott Community College Trucking School facility that adjoins the assessment site in the west. An approximate three acre parcel has been carved out of the southwest corner of the assessment site and is currently used to house communication tower facilities. The site is currently owned by the Bourbon County Economic Development Council, which acquired the various Fort Scott Industrial Park tracts through several Quit Claim and Warranty Deeds filed between 1993 and 2008. Previous owners of record include individuals and Fort Scott Industries, Inc. Topographic maps in 1893 show the assessment site as undeveloped land with the Gulf Railroad to the east.
