Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) on approximately 18.5 acres of vacant land located directly easy of the intersection of Ironwood Rd. and US Highway 69 in Fort Scott, Kansas. The BTA was conducted for the Bourbon County Economic Development Council through the KDHE Coalition Assessment Grant # BF 97741501 - petroleum substance funding. The property is targeted for expansion of the industrial park. Based on the Phase I report, no "Recognized Environmental Conditions" (RECs) were identified in connection with the subject property and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Former Use: The assessment site consists of mostly vacant yet severely disturbed land that occupies approximately 18.50 acres in southern Fort Scott, Kansas. This tract is within the Fort Scott Industrial Park, spanning west of Liberty Bell Road to the U.S. Highway 69 right-of-way. The Niece Products of Kansas facility (Formerly Klein Products) at 3904 Liberty Bell Road facility adjoins the assessment site to the south. An extension of similar disturbed land conditions adjoins the assessment site to the north. The assessment site is owned by the Bourbon County Economic Development Council which is not actively utilizing the site for an specific purposes. The central portions of the tract are highly disturbed as detailed above. Previous owners of record include individuals (or respective trusts) and Fort Scott Industries, Inc. Other historical corporate interests were not identified; however, a comprehensive chain-of-custody title review was not performed.
