Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) on approximately 7.3 acres of vacant land located southwest of the intersection of Jayhawk Rd and US HWY 69 in Fort Scott, Kansas. The BTA was conducted for the Bourbon County Economic Development Council through the KDHE Coalition Assessment Grant # BF 97741501 - petroleum substance funding. The property is targeted for expansion of the industrial park. Based on the Phase I report, no "Recognized Environmental Conditions" (RECs) were identified in connection with the subject property and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Former Use: The assessment site consists of one municipal parcel that occupies approximately 7.30 acres of vacant pastureland in southern Fort Scott, Kansas. The parcel is located directly south of Jayhawk Road between US Highway 69 and Liberty Bell Road. The Christian Learning Center facility property bounds the assessment site to the south. Topographic maps in 1893 show the assessment site as undeveloped land. The east adjoining railroad is shown as the Gulf Railroad. Site conditions persist to aerial imagery recorded in 1957 that show the assessment site as agricultural land. Roads have been constructed to the north (Jayhawk Rd), west (US 69), and east (Liberty Bell Road). 1893-1957 : Undeveloped land converted to agricultural land 1957-1985 : Barn and detached garage facilities were constructed on site. 1985-2012 : Agricultural and pastureland 2012-2015 : Agricultural and pastureland but no longer structures. Assessment site owned by BEDCO (Bourbon County Economic Development Council), previous owners of record include individuals (or respective trusts) and Fort Scott Industries, Inc.
