The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) on a 2.5 acre lot located at the southeast corner of East 12th Street and South Clark Street in Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas. The BTA was conducted for the City of Fort Scott through the KDHE Coalition Assessment Grant (EPA Cooperative Agreement # BF97741501). The City intends to assist the prospective purchaser in reusing the vacant lot for a meat market. Additionally, a Phase I was completed at the adjoining-west property (Five Corners West: C3-006-73306) in conjuction with this BTA, as the prospective purchaser intends to acquire both lots. Based on the information collected in the Phase I report for the Five Corners East property, no Recognized Environmental Conditions were identified, and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Former Use: The site is located at the southeast corner of E. 12th Street and S. Clark Street in Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas. The site is approximately 2.5 acres of mostly grass cover. 1957-1996: The site appears to be vacant tree and grass cover. 2002: The south-central portion of the site appears to have been used as a staging/discard area for soil or construction debris. 2005: The site is vacant tree and grass again, with small area of grading to the west central. 2006-2012: Small roadway. The current site owner is Obrien Rock Company Inc., who obtained the title on August 5, 1998 from Donald L. Stewart. Additional owners consist of Jim Smith and various other individuals.
