Additional Property Attributes

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Deschutes executives, including founder Gary Fish, announced that the craft brewer plans to invest $85 million and build its East Coast production brewery on this 49 acre site. A little over 100 new jobs will be created for the region, and the new brewery will produce approximately 150,000 barrels to start, with a design to increase capacity as needed. Deschutes expects to start shipping beer from the Roanoke location in about five years. The state will contribute $3 million from the Commonwealths Opportunity Fund; the citys contribution of the land, a donation worth about $2.75 million; a grant of about $140,000 from the citys Enterprise Zone Program, a performance-based grant from the city through the Economic Development Authority with an anticipated value of about $1.4 million; and two other performance-based grants from the authority totaling $225,000 .

Former Use: The property had predominately been used for agricultural purposes and was purchased by the City in 1989 to be used as part of the Roanoke Centre for Industry and Technology.
