Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the property located at 607 S. 7th Street in Burlington, Kansas. The BTA was conducted for the Coffey County Housing Authority, a non-profit proposing to redevelop the Auction House Store For Less Bait Shop into a triplex for moderate income households. The BTA was necessary to meet the due diligence requirements for redevelopment. Based on the Phase I report, no "Recognized Environmental Conditions" (RECs) were identified in connection with the BTA property and the property is cleared for redevelopment.

Former Use: Initial development of the assessment predates earliest available historical records. Historical records in 1884 show the assessment site was developed as a private residence. A well is noted on maps in the center of the property that is suspected to be a private drinking water well. Records after 1884 show the assessment site as vacant property with no dwellings or structures on the property until 1924. Records in 1924 show the assessment site developed as �The Farmers Produce Company.� This development is consistent through 1949 where the facility is now listed as �Seymour Packing Company.� Records show the presence of a structure covering the majority of the assessment site up to the most recent record in 2012. City directories indicate the assessment site operated as a bait and tackle shop in 1995. User provided records and the Brownfields Application indicate that the assessment site operated as a storage facility prior to the bait and tackle shop. Records in 2014 show the assessment site void of any structures. Site reconnaissance confirms vacant land conditions present on the assessment site.
