Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducted a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at 141 SW Main Street in Melvern, Kansas. THe BTA was conducted for the City of Melvern, who currently owns the property and intends to sell to a prospective purchaser for reuse. The Phase I was necessary to fulfill the due diligence requirements prior to the property transaction and was completed through the KDHE Coalition Assessment Grant-hazardous substance funding. Based on the Phase I report, no Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) were identified in connection with the BTA property, and the property is cleared for redevelopment. A NESHAP Asbestos Survey was also conducted on the former city hall building located on the property as an additional scope outside of the ASTM 1527-13 Phase I assessment. One asbestos-containing material (ACM) was identified as approximately 2 square feet of sink undercoat. Abatement of this ACM will likely be required prior to renovation and/or demolition. The applicant will be advised to work with the KDHE Asbestos Control Section to comply with all Federal and State regulations with respect to the asbestos.

Former Use: The subject site is located in Melvern, Kansas and consists of approximately 0.07 acres in size. Currently on site, a two story brick veneer building. The general topographic gradient gently slopes to the south and east. The site is currently owned by the City of Melvern and has been owned by the city since approximately 1904. The site has been used as the Melvern City Hall since its construction in 1925.
