Additional Property Attributes

The subject property is identified as an open LUST site with the MDEQ based upon a gasoline release reported in 1992 (Facility ID # 00018424; Leak # C-0539-92). The UST system was subsequently removed from the subject property. The facility status of the subject property is based upon the detection of 1,2,4-trimethyl-benzene and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene in soil beneath the area of a former pump island of the former underground storage tank (UST) system at concentrations above one or more of the current Generic Residential and Non-Residential Cleanup Criteria.

Former Use: The site is developed with an approximately 2,200-square-foot commercial building. The subject property was vacant wooded land before a convenience store and gas station with two 1,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) was developed in 1956. The tanks were removed from the ground in 1992 after a loss of product was discovered. Subsequent environmental investigations and response activities included nearly 64 tons of contaminated soil being excavated from around the former USTs and associated piping and taken to the Marquette County Landfill for thermal remediation. Subsequent investigation work conducted in 1996 identified contamination in soil across an area of about 2,000 square feet and extending to a depth of about 17 feet below ground level remained in place beneath the former pump island. The reported 1992 gasoline release remains open with the MDEQ. EPA Grant funding was utilized to conduct supplemental assessment activities in support of acquisition of the site to be operated as a convenience store.
