Bent County would like to conduct renovation activities on Building 7 and building 508 at the Ft. Lyon Facility. Based on previous investigations, asbestos-containing material (ACM) had previously been identified in the building. This TBA included an ACM survey to determine and/or refine the locations and extents of ACM at the building and visual inspections for PCBs, mercury, and mold. For this TBA project, all paint inside the building was considered LBP. Contaminants identified in building 7 were ACM, mercury thermostat switches, and potential PCB ballasts and contaminants identified in building 508 were ACM and one mercury thermostat switch. Building 7 is a three-story (with basement), 53,000 square foot H shaped structure on the southern-most side of the property. Building 508 is a two-story structure located on the eastern end of C Street and has been used as housing. The state of Colorado and Bent County would like to find mixed commercial and residential reuse for these buildings.

Former Use: Fort Lyon dates back to 1868 when it was a U.S. Army Fort. The property has also been used as a TB sanatorium, VA Hospital, and correctional facility. The campus is currently owned by the Colorado Department of Personnel and Administration. Bent County manages the property and Colorado Coalition for the Homeless currently uses some of the buildings on campus.
