Additional Property Attributes

Superior Extrusion Inc. is interested in expanding its business onto adjoining property immediately north of its existing operation. This expansion would require acquisition of Building #741 on the former KI Sawyer AFB and vacant land to improve accessibility and truck traffic. Building #741 was constructed in 1962 is currently vacant and will be demolished to support the expansion. The project is expected to result in an investment of $10-13 million resulting in a newly constructed building and new equipment. Over time, the project is expected to help create 25-30 new jobs. In support of demolition of Building #741 the MCBRA has funded the completion of a pre-demolition asbestos and lead-based paint survey. The subsequent building demolition will be privately funded by Superior Extrusion.

Former Use: Building #741 is identified as 114 G Avenue, Gwinn, Michigan. The building occupies 5,357 ft2 and was constructed in 1962. The U.S. Air Force utilized the building for jet engine testing operations. K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base operations ceased in 1995 and the property was acquired by Marquette County in 1999. The building has subsequently been leased by Marquette County to tenants consisting of an asphalt sealing and painting company and a machine shop. Each of these tenants reportedly occupied the building for a relatively limited period of time (i.e. approximately 2 years). A single bay within the building is currently leased for storage by a general contractor.
