The Kansas Department of Health and Environment received an application from the city of Fort Scott to have a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment competed on the property located at 124 E Wall in Fort Scott, KS. The city�s goal is to redevelop the property using a CDGB Grant. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the above referenced property in Fort Scott, Kansas. The Phase I report has been enclosed for your records. Based on the Phase I report, no �Recognized Environmental Conditions� (RECs) were identified at the property. No further investigation is needed through the Brownfields Program and the property is cleared for redevelopment. A NESHAP Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint and Mold Survey was also conducted on the site, and a hard copy has been enclosed for your records. Both lead based paint (LBP and asbestos containing materials were identified at the site. Asbestos containing materials were identified in some areas of the building. Asbestos was identified as 1200 sq. ft. linoleum flooring (15% chrysotile), and 300 ln. ft. gray with blue paint exterior window caulking (5% chrysotile). Lead based paint was identified on the interior and exterior of the building. Lead based paint was identified as 100 sq. ft. tan concrete base trim (1,540 mg/kg), 30 sq. ft. blue exterior door and window trim (973 mg/kg), and 40 sq. ft. brown exterior door and window trim (6,330 mg/kg). The applicants were notified the need to consult KDHE Asbestos Control Section prior to renovation and/or demolition activities.
