Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment received an application from the city of Fort Scott for a property located at 113 S Main. The city is requiring a Phase I BTA so the building can be redeveloped for commercial use as part of their neighborhood revitalization program. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the above referenced property in Fort Scott, Kansas. The Phase I report has been enclosed for your records. Based on the Phase I report, no Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) were identified at the property. No further investigation is needed through the Brownfields Program and the property is cleared for redevelopment. A NESHAP Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint and Mold Survey was also conducted on the site, and a hard copy has been enclosed for your records. Both lead based paint (LBP) and asbestos containing materials were identified at the site. Asbestos containing materials were identified in some areas of the building. Asbestos was identified as 100 sq. ft. brown linoleum (10% chrysotile), 4 lf air-o-cell friable thermal systems insulation (NA), and 2 friable thermal systems insulation joints (NA). Lead based paint was identified on the interior and exterior of the building. Lead based paint was identified as tan to yellow decorated plaster on the theatre wall (2,670 mg/kg), 100 sq. ft. light blue plaster in the 1st floor utility closet (7,530 mg/kg), and green painted wood on the exterior front trim (59.4 mg/kg).
