he Kansas Department of Health and Environment received a BTA application from the city of Fort Scott for a property located at 117 S. Main. The has requested a Phase I BTA to be done at the property in order for the building to be redeveloped as part of the city's neighborhood revitalization program. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a Phase I Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the above referenced property in Fort Scott, Kansas. The Phase I report has been enclosed for your records. Based on the Phase I report, no �Recognized Environmental Conditions� (RECs) were identified at the property. No further investigation is needed through the Brownfields Program and the property is cleared for redevelopment. A NESHAP Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint and Mold Survey was also conducted on the site, and a hard copy has been enclosed for your records. Both lead based paint (LBP) and asbestos containing materials were identified at the site. Asbestos containing materials were identified in some areas of the building. Asbestos was identified as air-o-cell friable thermal systems insulation (NA), and 25-30 friable thermal systems insulation joints (NA). Both of these were located in the basement. Lead based paint was identified on the interior and exterior of the building. Lead based paint was identified 60 sq. ft. yellow decorated wood on the 2nd floor window (204,000 mg/kg), tan decorative drywall on the 2nd floor east wall ceiling (2,160 mg/kg), and 100 sq. ft. peach painted metal on the exterior fa�e (93,600 mg/kg).
