Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Standard and other historical sources document that the subject property was vacant land from at least 1937 until a garage was constructed in the northwestern portion (411 West 9 Mile Road) in 1943. The garage was converted to commercial use in the late 1940s, and was occupied by a real estate office between 1950 and the 1980s, office supply store in the 1980s, was associated with the operations at 407 West 9 Mile Road during the 1990s, and demolished in 2016. The northern portion of the current building (407 West 9 Mile Road) was constructed in 1947. The southern portion was completed between 1951 and 1952. The building was occupied by a glass and cabinet shop between at least 1950 and 1962 and Lang Industries and K. R. Thread Grinding, machining and grinding operations for the automotive and aircraft industry, between at least 1970 and 2012, and potentially from the 1960s. The building was vacant between 2013 and 2015, significantly remodeled in 2016, and has been occupied by an art studio pop-up since 2017. The current and former subject buildings were occupied by machining and/or grinding operations between at least 1970 and 2012, and potentially from the 1960s. The floors within the warehouse area of the current building were observed to be in poor condition with staining, cracking, and pitting, and historical municipal office records document hazardous substance use and storage. Historical interior waste streams associated with the former operations would have likely consisted of additional hazardous substances and/or petroleum products. A portion of this period preceded major environmental regulations and current waste management and disposal procedures.
