Additional Property Attributes

The property formerly contained a hydroelectric power plant that was demolished in 1975. The land is directly below the Fordham Dam on the Rock River and quickly became one of the areas most popular fishing locations. In 2006, the site was targeted for redevelopment to support the future UW Health Sports Factory (Ingersoll Milling Machine) site to the north, a railroad consolidation project to the south, and a recreational path for access to a former railroad bridge over the Rock River that was converted to a pedestrian bridge. A large transformer yard was once on the property and PCBs were a valid concern. In 2006 a Preliminary Phase I ESA was completed in an effort to identify RECs associated with the property. The Phase I identified several RECs related to the property and was provided to Commonwealth Edison as an initial starting point for cleanup negotiations. Commonwealth Edison performed supplemental investigation and confirmed the presence of PCBs, PNAs/SVOCs, and several metals. The site was enrolled in the Illinois EPA's Site Remediation Program to oversee cleanup of the property. Cleanup occurred in 2014 and throughout 2015 and a final NFR letter was issued for the property and recorded in April 2017. The site is now an open tract of greenspace with a recreational path that connects to converted railroad bridge spanning the Rock River. The site also continues to support fishing activities just below the Fordham Dam.
