Additional Property Attributes

"An underground storage tank (UST) was found in the northwest corner of the property. No further information about this tank and its former contents were found. Lead-based paint was discovered on painted surfaces that were accessible. Due to its dilapidated condition, the building could not be entered for an asbestos survey; therefore it's presumed that asbestos is present. The mayor of Westboro stated that asbestos had been removed from the building in the 1980s, but the paperwork proving this is inside the building and inaccessible. A Phase II investigation is recommended to determine if there is any impact from the UST. The building should be demolished using Asbestos Wet Demolition Methods, in accordance with EPA and MDNR regulations. As building will be demolished (to remove safety hazard) some form of clean up is required"

Former Use: This site is the former elementary school for Westboro. The site consists of a single three-story building which was in use from approximately 1917 to 1992. The building is caving in and, as such, is a safety hazard. Due to the building's age, it most likely contains asbestos and lead-based paint. The city wishes to demolish the building and possibly use the land as an extension of the adjacent baseball field.
