The City of Mitchell has made this a major project to improve and redevelop the Main Street. The City is planning to demolish these old dilapidated buildings and redevelop it to include retail/service businesses that will enhance the appeal of the Main Street. The first step is to assess for the presence of asbestos and thus they are requesting Brownfields assistance in performing the asbestos survey.

Former Use: The subject property consists of two retail buildings in the central business district of Mitchell, Davison County, SD. The 115 N. Main St building is an approximate 27� by 50�, single story (no basement) building. The west part of the building is an addition. The 117 N. Main St building is an approximate 27� by 100�, two story (plus basement) building. The first floor was previously retail space, and the second floor was previously apartments. A portion of the south exterior stone wall of the 117 building has delaminated. The buildings are unoccupied/vacant, and pending demolition. There is concern for possible asbestos within building materials
