Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park is approximately 1,400-acres in size. The property is undeveloped with no structures and has no physical address. It is surrounded by agricultural land and vacant flatlands covered by coastal chaparral forest. The southern portion of the site is currently used for grazing activities and was historically used for agricultural activities. According to previous environmental assessments, the Wentz Cattle Company utilized the site prior to the 1970s and likely constructed a vacated cattle dip tank on the site. The Phase I ESA found the following RECs: Arsenic is present in surface soil, subsurface soil, and groundwater near a former cattle dip tank located in the central portion of the site. Based on a Phase II ESA conducted in March 2012, the impacted area exceeds TRRP Tier 1 PCLs for arsenic in soil and groundwater and the US EPA MCLs for arsenic in groundwater; therefore, the former cattle dip area is considered a REC.
