Additional Property Attributes

Standard and other historical sources were able to document that the property consisted of vacant wooded land in at least 1912. A dwelling was constructed on the western portion between 1912 and 1914, which what demolished between 1914 and 1952. A portion of a building was constructed on the northern portion and mining operations began on the eastern and southern portions between 1960 and 1975. PM was unable to document the use of the building; however, based on use of the area for mining it is likely that the building was occupied by an office or warehouse. By 1977, the building had been demolished and mining operations expanded to the northern portion. An outbuilding was constructed on the eastern portion between 1975 and 1977, which was demolished by 1983. Mining operations ceased between 1995 and 2000, and the property consisted of vacant or vacant wooded land between at least 2000 and 2009. Between 2009 and 2012, the property was graded and cleared, and has consisted of vacant land since that time. Review of available Virginia Department of Mining, Minerals, and Energy (DMME) documents that the former mining areas were reclaimed and approved in August 2013. Based on this information it is likely that the reclamation activities took place during the grading and clearing operations.
