Additional Property Attributes

This property was the former Presbyterian Church. They plan to revitalize the property into a new media center. They have already started remodeling the interior for the future media center. As part of the City of Okemah's plans to renovate an abandoned church into a library media extension, ODEQ assisted by performing a lead-based paint and asbestos Phase II. On December 8, 2020, ODEQ contractors performed the field activities resulting in the Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint Report (January 13, 2021) and an Asbestos Abatement Plan (March 25, 2021). The sampling results indicated lead-based paint on interior cabinets in the basement and exterior locations (window trim, soffits, and rafter tail) along with asbestos in the joint compound used throughout the building, 9"x9" tile found in the basement, and presumed in the asphalt roof. ODEQ has offered further assistance to the community through other programs and partnerships to help the City leverage their available funds to reuse the building.
