Additional Property Attributes

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment received a Brownfields application from the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas for their property located at 1050 US Hwy 75 in Netawaka, KS. They requested a concurrent Phase I and Phase II BTA for redevelopment project. The application was approved on June 28, 2019.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) completed a concurrent Phase I and Phase II Brownfields Targeted Assessment (BTA) at the above referenced property in Netawaka, Kansas. The Phase II BTA was completed to evaluate the "Recognized Environmental Conditions" (RECs) identified during the Phase I. Based on the Phase I report, RECs were identified as potential petroleum products due to the property's history as a filling station.

The Phase II consisted of eleven soil borings collocated with four groundwater probes. All soil and groundwater samples were collected at the site for VOC and TPH analysis.

Based on the soil and groundwater data obtained during the Phase II BTA activities, TPH MRH and HRH were detected in the soil and groundwater at concentrations above their respective Risk Based Standards for Kansas (RSK) residential soil to groundwater and residential groundwater scenarios. The site will be referred to the Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Program for further handling. Based on the intended redevelopment the property is cleared for redevelopment; however, the Brownfields Program strongly recommends working with the LUST Program if redevelopment plans may encounter contamination.
