Additional Property Attributes

The property was acquired by Advantage Metals Recycling, LLC (AMR) in July of 2008. The site was formerly operated by American Compressed Steel, Inc. and was previously known as the Missouri Iron & Metal Yard. Portions of the site have historically been operated for metal recycling purposes since at least the late 1800s. Other portions of the site have been utilized as a filling station, railroad fueling area, warehouses, seed lots, and residential dwellings. The former filling station area included two gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) that were removed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) revealed metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination in soil and arsenic and PAHs in groundwater. The site entered the Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Program (BVCP) to address this contamination. Asbestos-containing material was removed from the Non-Ferrous Building in 2018. An engineered cap for soil and an Environmental Covenant were used to address the soil contamination. The site received a Certificate of Completion letter in July 2019. The Phase I ESA done as part of this cooperative agreement identified RECs associated with the site's historical use as a gas station and automotive facility. These RECs were previously addressed in 2010 when the site entered the BVCP and received a Certificate of Completion letter in 2019.
