Additional Property Attributes

The site is located on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in Buffalo County, South Dakota. The site is in Section 14, Township 107 North, Range 72 West, Fort Thompson, Buffalo County, South Dakota. The site is approximately 4.5-acres and consists primarily of vegetated land with a sheet metal structure and trailer home on a concrete pad in the northwest corner. Debris including two satellite dishes, cinderblocks, and metallic scrap is located near the southwest corner of the site. Surrounding land is a mixture of agricultural and residential use. The site is currently vacant. Surface cover at the site primarily consists of regraded soil, grass, and sparse trees with an approximately 10,000 square foot concrete pad in the northwest corner of the site. The site was historically used as a muffler factory in the 1970s. The muffler factory was known to store barrels of waste related to manufacturing processes in the cellar. The year of the building's removal and the disposal of the waste formerly housed onsite are not documented. The tribe intends to redevelop the land as residential housing. Elevated levels of manganese were detected but the levels seem to be consistent with background levels of Mg in the area.
