Additional Property Attributes

The property consists of two parcels located at 1571 and 1576 US Highway 158, Macon, Warren County, North Carolina. Mr. Loyd King owns both parcels. Located at the intersection of Elm Street and US Highway 158, the site consists of approximately 0.40 acres. Both properties historically operated as filling stations. According to interview information, the historical filling station on 1571 US Highway 158 was developed prior to the 1940s and operated through approximately 1970s. The petroleum underground storage tanks (USTs) on this parcel were reportedly removed in the 1970s, although we were unable to obtain information documenting site conditions at the time of their removal. We did not find evidence of USTs on this parcel during a GPR survey conducted as part of the Phase I ESA. The building was demolished in 2018 and at the time of site reconnaissance the 1571 US Highway 158 property was undeveloped. Mr. King purchased this parcel in 2020.
According to interview information, the historical filling station on 1576 US Highway 158 was developed prior to the 1940s and operated through approximately 1960s. This historical filling station also provided vehicle maintenance activities. At the time of site reconnaissance the 1576 US Highway 158 property was developed with an approximately 1,000 square foot former filling station which was utilized by the property owner for storage. Three USTs were identified at the property via the GPR survey conducted as part of this Phase I ESA. This parcel has been in Mr. King's family for several decades. The Phase I ESA noted the following RECs: the historical operation of a filling station with petroleum USTs at Parcel A of the Subject Property is considered a REC; the historical operation of a filling station, including the former use and current presence of at least three USTs, at Parcel B of the Subject Property is considered a REC; and the historical use of, and potential disposal of petroleum and/or vehicle maintenance fluids into, a septic on Parcel B of the Subject Property is considered a REC. Future use of the property has not yet been determined.
