Additional Property Attributes

The City of Alba has applied for a Brownfields Assessment for the former Alba High School. The building was built in approximately 1907, and served as a school until 1989, after which time it was operated by a church until 2010. The school building has three stories and a basement, with an attached gymnasium and cafeteria. There is also a detached building that served as the school library. The buildings have a total area of approximately 20,000 square feet.

No recognized environmental conditions were identified in the Phase I ESA. Electrical ballasts in the building may contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). An inspection for asbestos-containing material (ACM) and lead-based paint (LBP) was conducted, and both ACM and LBP were found on site. The recommendations were: If ballasts are changed or removed, they should be inspected to determine if PCBs are present and properly disposed of. Renovation or demolition of structures containing ACM or LBP should be conducted in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
