Additional Property Attributes

The Shaw Neighborhood Housing Corporation has applied for a brownfields assessment for a former gas station located in the neighborhood. The property contains a 2600 square foot building and was developed as a gas station in the 1950s. Although the gasoline tanks have been removed the hydraulic lifts and associated tanks remain. The purpose of the brownfields assessment is to further the revitalization of the neighborhood. The proposed future use of the property is as a restaurant.

Two recognized environmental condition were identified on the property: the site was a gasoline filling station prior to 1964, and the current building is a vacant service station with in-ground hydraulic lifts and a grit trap or suspected oil-water separator.

Soil and groundwater was sampled in the vicinity of the hydraulic lifts, a grit trap, and the area of a possible underground storage tank. In the vicinity of the grit trap, soil contamination was found that exceeds the risk-based target levels for residential use. VOCs, GRO, PAHs, lead, and selenium were found above Default Target Levels in soil, with VOCs and GRO being above residential target levels. Tert-butyl alchohol and methyl tert-butyl ether were found in groundwater below the lowest screening levels.
