Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Southern Pacific Railroad operatd extensively out of Yuma from 1870 until approximately 1960. A large railyard maintenance facility was operated by Southern Pacific at the Giss Parkway site until about 1958. The facility included a maintenance rondhouse, garage and car shop, liquid transfer pit, railraod junkyard and garage, and oil house. Information is limited regarding specific onsite activities and types of hazardous substances used. For serveral years, the City of Yuma has been working to restore the historic downtown area. Progress has been made; however, the Giss Parkway site remains a blighted abadoned railraod property. The City made efforts to reclaim this property and redevelop it for productive use.
