Additional Property Attributes

Phase I completed and Phase II initiated under BF-97137801-1. Supplemental Phase II initiated under BF-97180301-0. The Supplemental Phase II was completed under 2B-9611001-1. Exeedances of lead and arsenic identified by EPA's Emergency Planning and Response Branch from October 2006 to April 2007 were later determined to be colleced from the large building material debris piles left on the site as a result of two fires (in 2001 and 2005) that destroyed the site buildings. The building material debris piles were removed off the site in October 2009 by the City using leveraged funds from MassDevelopment.

Former Use: The Site facility was constructed in the late 19th century and was utilized as a textile mill facility identified as Bel Air Manufacturing Company Woolen Mill. In the 1920s, Hathaway Bakeries Inc. of Springfield, Massachusetts bought the facility and occupied it until the late 1950s. Goodwill Industries acquired the Site in 1965. Ski America, a retail ski and service business, occupied the Site between 1982 and 1986. The Site has been reportedly vacant since 1986. The large mill buildings on the Site were destroyed by fire in 2001 and 2005. The building material debris was removed off the Site by the City in October 2009.
