Additional Property Attributes

The following RECs were identified in connection with this Property: The potential for unreported and/or undetected releases of hazardous substances and/or petroleum products associated with the historical use of the Property for manufacturing, a bulk fuel oil facility, and farmers cooperative. Potential sources of releases include the former use of multiple underground storage tanks (USTs) and aboveground storage tanks (ASTs); the storage and use of various hazardous substances, including fertilizers and pesticides; the storage of chemical wastes (e.g., used motor oil); and the storage of treated lumber at the Property. The potential for unreported and/or undetected releases of hazardous substances and/or petroleum products associated with the historical use of the Property as a scrap tire facility. Potential sources of releases include a tire incinerator formerly in use at the Property. The scrap tire operation also reportedly stored motor oil and fuel in tanks and drums on the Property. The potential for releases of hazardous substances to the environment from black sludge present along a berm near the north Property boundary. During the December 2008 site reconnaissance, Lapham observed the sludge on top of the berm and reported its origin could not be determined.

Former Use: The Property was first developed with a grain elevator in 1908. The grain elevator was reportedly destroyed by fire in 1912, and the Property was subsequently redeveloped with a new grain elevator, lumberyard, creamery, and pickle factory. In 1931, a farmers cooperative and train depot was operating on a portion of the Property. A bulk fuel oil depot operated on the Property between the 1940s and 1960s. At least two aboveground storage tanks and three underground storage tanks were reportedly in use on the Property during this period. The tanks reportedly contained gasoline and fuel oil. The farmers cooperative performed vehicle maintenance and stored fertilizers and other chemicals on the Property. In 1997, a scrap tire recycling facility began operating on the Property. The scrap tire facility reportedly ceased operations in 2007.
