Additional Property Attributes

Approximately 500 automobiles were buried on the east side of Mission Creek in the early 1970?s. From 1986 to 2009, over 5,000 automobiles were crushed in the former McLeod Junkyard near Mission View Road. In 2004, a cement slab was poured for draining fluids prior to crushing, and fluids were containerized and disposed of offsite. Prior to 2004 it is unknown what protocol was followed for disposal of automotive fluids.

Former Use: The site is Tribal Trust land in Township 19 North, Range 21 West, Section 33. The site consists of 80 acres of land, primarily located in wetland areas near Mission Creek, which flows to the southwest through the center of the site.Alfred and Rick McLeod lease the land and live on the southeatern corner of the property. In approximately the 1960's through 1986, junk vehicle dismantling and burial occurred at the site without a permit. From 1986 to 2009, permitted vehicle dismantling and automobile crushing operations occured in the southeatern portion of the site. The industrial portion of the site, immediately adjacent to residences, has been unused since 2009.
