Additional Property Attributes

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment confirmed cars were placed at the site in the 1960's, salvaged for parts (not crushed) then buried by soil 1970's. The target property is located in St. Ignatius, Montana, about 0.25 miles southeast of US Route 93. The parcel is approximately 6.8 acres, and has a gentle slope to the west. The property is mostly covered by grass and weeds. Mission Creek flows northwest through the northeast corner of the target property. The target property is tribally owned and previously had cars buried on-site. A shed and an open barn are the only structures on the target property.

Former Use: Approximately 15 cars were dumped on the site in the 1960's. Cars were not crushed, dismantled or repaired, but parts were scavenged. In the 1970's cars were buried by a bulldozer and backhoe. Car batteries and automotive waste are likely buried with the cars at an estimated depth of 4 feet. In the early 2000's site was used for cattle grazing.
