Additional Property Attributes

The City has selected this property and the surrounding properties as the most suitable location for the site of two new middle schools that the city is currently constructing to replace its outdated and overpopulated existing middle school. The new middle schools are scheduled to open in January 2010.

Former Use: A two-story brick industrial building was constructed on the property around the turn of the twentieth century. Historical records indicate that the first occupant of the property was the River Spinning Co. By 1922, Guerin Mills Inc. occupied the property. Early land use practices at the property consisted of textile processing including dyeing, scouring, and carbonizing wool and other materials. By the 1950s, the property was occupied by the Lafayette Worsted Co. Throughout the 1960s, ACS Industries occupied the property. In 1969, ACS Industries acquired the property by land merger. Since that time, land use practices at the property generally consisted of manufacturing and storing l mesh and wire products. Following the fire, hazardous waste handling contractors were brought to the property to remove all hazardous materials that remained at the property. The property was then vacant with no buildings until redevelopment activities commenced in 2008.
