Additional Property Attributes

The overall project site consists of an approximately -mile section of the former Morris Canal right-of-way south of the intersection of Route 440 and Danforth Avenue. The surrounding vicinity is a densely developed urban area with mixed uses including residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional development. The site is targeted for redevelopment as a bike path by the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency.

Former Use: Historically, the site had consisted of a portion of the Morris Canal since the mid-1830s until being drained and filled in the 1920s. The property was subsequently operated as a railroad right-of-way until the 1970s and has consisted of a utility easement since circa 1976. Currently, the site primarily consists of vacant land with several subsurface utility lines (e.g., sewer, water, natural gas).
