Additional Property Attributes

The Site encompasses five former parcels. According to historical documentation (Section 6.4), the Site has been in industrial use since at least 1880. Past uses have included: steel and iron foundering, metal machining, truck and heavy equipment maintenance, petroleum storage, bulk oil storage and distribution, a taxi service and vehicle maintenance business, electrical contracting, and brass foundering and ?japanning? (applying lacquer or enamel to metals). A grocery store has been constructed and opened in November 2017.

Former Use: The overall Site is a 4.494 acre parcel of property owned by Vermont Railway, Inc. (VT Railway) that includes ten buildings. Six buildings on the Site were most recently leased to Barrett?s Trucking, which used the facilities for salt and equipment storage. Other recent tenants include a wood reclamation shop, a roofing contractor, an antique dealer, and a general contractor. With the exception of the southern portion of the largest salt shed (Building #6), all buildings are currently vacant having recently had asbestos abatement activities completed. City Market (Onion River Cooperative) intends to purchase the Site to allow for redevelopment of the northernmost 2.81 acres of the Site as a cooperative grocery store. The remaining 1.684 acres will be subdivided from the proposed grocery store property to be developed along its own trajectory. Remediation of the Site is required to prevent exposure of future Site users to Site contaminants.
